August 2025
In August, we had 1,311 patient interactions at Muira Health Center. This included 48 antenatal checks for expecting mothers and 2 safe deliveries. Despite frequent rainy days that made travel difficult for patients, it was a productive month overall.
Some of our staff members were affected by malaria, which created challenges in daily operations. We are actively exploring strategies to reduce this issue going forward. On the supply side, we received our regular monthly medication order, totaling about $3,000 in medications and medical supplies.
This month we also welcomed a new midwife. Retaining staff remains a challenge, as many need to return to their home areas after a few months.
On the agriculture side, four hens hatched 17 chicks, and we completed construction of a new poultry house in about three weeks—great work by Emma and Ivan! The poultry house will provide a safe space for the chicks as they grow. In addition, we began construction of a goat housing structure that will protect the goats during rain and at night. We expect it to be finished by mid-September.
From the state’s side, we continue to reach out to potential donors and sponsors, though progress has been challenging. We held several meetings with organizations this month and are hopeful for positive outcomes. Looking ahead, we are working toward the purchase of an ultrasound machine and will be focusing on raising funds for this important need. In addition, we are actively seeking a grant writer—if you are interested in supporting us in this role, please reach out.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to the generous donors who made this possible.
As always, we thank every supporter, donor, and volunteer who stands with Muira Health Center. Your continued support helps us provide quality care, improve our facilities, and give back to the community we love.
